ANAND SCORED HIS FIRST WIN AT CORUS

World Chess Champion Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand beat Alexie Shirov to register his first win in the 10th round game at Corus Chess Championship

After drawing 9 games in as many rounds, India’s  Super Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand scored his first win against  Spanish Grandmaster Alexie Shirov. Playing with White Anand opened with e4 and Shirov replied with e5 and the game was fought  on Ruy Lopez Moeller Defence lines. Both the players blundered in the middle game but Anand was quick to recover , He finally beat Shirov but only from a lost position. Shirov left himself with too little time on the run up to the first time.

Kramnik beats Carlsen, Anand draws at CORUS

Holland’s Sergei Tiviakov held Viswanathan Anand to a tie with white in 63 moves from an Alapin. It was the world champion’s ninth draw in as many rounds.

Vladimir Kramnik of Russia defeated Norway’s Magnus Carlsen in ninth-round play at the Corus Chess Tournament to join Alexei Shirov of Spain on top of the standings in the event’s highest section Tuesday. Kramnik’s win came after 38 moves with black from a Catalan, one of his favourite openings

Alexei Shirov’s lead in the Corus top-division standings dwindled to a mere half point after he incurred his first defeat of the tournament in round-seven action against Hikaru Nakamura of the U.S.

Playing against Italian Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana Vishy Anand exchanged some hard blows in a game that “was tame at the start but fun at the end,” as Van Wely put it watching the encounter in the press room.

Anand-draws with Carlsen at Corus 2010

World Champion Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand  drew in a short 19 moves   game against World No one GM Magnus Carlsen in the 6th Round of the ongoing CORUS Chess Championship at Wijk Aan Zee in Holland.

India’s Super Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand  and  Norwegian Grandmaster  Magnus Carlsen had a quick draw .Playing with white  Anand opened with e4 and  Carlsen replied with c5. However later in the opening moves    Carlsen Surprised Anand when he took the game towards Sicilienne dragon.  Anand played safe and  ended the game to a quick  draw.

Parimarjan gets his first win, Anand draws again at Corus Chess

World Champion Vishy Anand drew again in the fifth round of the Corus Chess 2010. Leading the Championship Alexi Shirov again won his fifth round game to remain on perfect 100% score. Vladimir Kramnik also won with black pieces against Jan Smeets.

 

After Drawing First 4 round games, India's youngest grandmaster Parimarjan Negi finally won his fifth game against GM V Akopian. In Grandmaster Group B GM Anis Giri defeated GM Sutovski. Pentala Harikrishna drew against  Wesley  So  . In Group C GM Abhijeet Gupta drew,while World Jr Girls Champion S. Swaminathan lost her game.

Shirov Scores100 % at Corus

"If I try to play for a draw with Black in the Petroff, I lose, and when I try to win with White I also lose." Not so today, as Alexey Shirov won his fourth game in a row, making his score a perfect 100% [4 wins from 4 games] and claiming his third IJmond Veelzijdig prize!

World Champion Vishy Anand however drew again. This was his fourth draw and he is now on 2 points from 4 games.

INDIA TAKES BRONZE AT WORLD TEAM CHESS

Russia beat Israel 3:1 in the last round of the World Team Chess Championship to successfully close the campaign and take home the gold medal. European Champion Evgeny Tomashevsky and Nikita Vitiugov brought the key points on the boards with white pieces
.The United States and India finished with 13 match points, but the silver medal goes to the United States thanks to the higher sum of individual points. SRIRAM JHA is India's New Grand Master

Delhi's Sriram Jha has become the latest Indian chess player to get a Grand Master title from the International Chess Federation (FIDE) while three players have been awarded the International Master title.Jha's current rating is 2511.

Swapnil Dhopade of Amravati, Debashis Das of Cuttack and Delhi's Sahaj Grover have been awarded the International Master title.

With these new inclusions, India now has 21 Grand Masters and 65 International Masters.

Philippines to organize major chess tournaments in 2010

The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) will host  the Asian Continental Individual men's and women's championships from 20-30th April, for the third time in four years. The allocated prize fund is $55,000, of which $40,000 are for the men's event and $15,000 for the women's. In addition, top four finishers will qualify to play at the 2011 World Chess Cup scheduled in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. Read More

INDIA A and VIETNAM Captures Men and Womens Asian Team Championship Titles

India A men’s team annexed the gold in the Tata Steel Asian Chess Championship which concluded at the Town Hall on Monday.  In the final round India A overwhelmed Sri Lanka 4-0 to take their match score to 14 points well ahead of Vietnam and Iran who finished on 11 match points.India A were the only team to win all their matches. Vietnam took the silver on the basis of better tie-breaking points while Iran had to be content with the bronze.

In the women’s section, overnight leaders, Vietnam crushed tail-enders Nepal 4-0 to total 11 points and get the gold. The India A women, who had got a bye in the final round ended on 10 points to take the silver in this section. India B women,went down to Iran 3-1 to spoil their chances of getting the silver. They ended on 9 match points along  with Iran and were placed 4th on tie break losing the bronze to Iran in this section.

India B surprises India A in Women's Section of Asian Team Championship

The India B team surprised India A in the womens section in the 4th round of the Tata Steel Asian Team Chess Championship being played in the town  Hall in Kolkata on Friday.

 In the mens section, India A continued to win and beat Vietnam 2.5-1.5 to lead the fray with 8 match points to their credit. They are closely followed by Iran on 7 points. Iran led by GM Eshan Ghaem Maghami beat Indonesia 3-1 to set up a 5th round clash with India A.

On the top board, GM P Harikrishna was surprised by GM Le Quang Liem, who had won the Kolkata open earlier this year.The Indian captain GM K Sasikiran against Nguyen Ngoe Troung Son, while Surya Sekhar Ganguly won a quick game against GM Dao Thien Hai with the black pieces in a Grunfeld defence.GM Parimarjan Negi drew his game against GM Nguyen Anh Dung

ASIAN TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP , KOLKATTA

   

The Asian team chess championship is taking place 20-28th December in Kolkata, India. A total of 93 players from Vietnam, India, Iran, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Singapore, Yemen, Sri Lanka, and Nepal are participating in the competition.
   
  The championship scheduled to start on December 21, has to be postponed by a day due to the late arrival of Bangladesh and Lanka teams. The Bangladesh captain, Niaz Murshed, however, arrived in the city earlier in the evening and attended the captains meeting. In the captains meeting held late in the evening it was agreed by all the teams that the tournament would start from Tuesday, December 22.

It was also decided in the captains meeting that no player can agree to a draw before 30 moves. The games will start from 2 p.m everyday.The time limit for each game will be 40 moves in the first one and half hours followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game. In addition there would be 30 seconds increment for each move.

India A team start as the favourite in both the men's and women's sections in this 7 round Swiss league championship which will continue untill December 28. As Host country, India has fielded 2 teams in each category.

CARLSEN Not to be ANAND's SECOND for WCC Match 2010

Magnus Carlsen was supposed to be part of Anand's team, as reported by the Indian Calcutta Telegraph earlier this week. However, alarms sounded as several other sources quoted Peter Heine Nielsen as the "sure second" for Anand.

After the Times of India report was published with the different team setup,   Chessdom  contacted, Magnus Carlsen himself for confirmation via Facebook. "I will make my own statement regarding this matter soon," commented Carlsen and a few minutes afterwards changed his status to, "Magnus Øen Carlsen: Is apparently not going to be a second for Anand after all.
