Anand Scores Again, Negi wins at Corus

Thee 8th Round of the Corus Chess Championship saw the clash of the Titans in which Reigning world Chess Champion Vishy Anand came out Victorious against the Former World Chess Champion Veselin Topalov. In this Sicilian Najdorf game Anand played an original idea in g6 on the 11th move with the idea of  trading the dark bishops square later in the game. Veselin Topalov tried hard to consolidate his position but the Indian Mastero cleverly mobilsed his pieces in such a way that Topalov could not move his pieces effectively.

This was a day of drawn games at Corus Chess Meet 2008, being played at Wijk Aan Zee in Netherlands. In the third round Viswanathan Anand  and Vladimir Kramnik had short draws in their respective games.

 

In Group C India’s Youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi, after losing the first 2 round games came back with Superb performance when he defeated Van Wiel in just  29 moves. It was an easy victory for Parimarjan

The World Chess Body FIDE has published the January rating list. As expected Anand and Kramnik are at the top. In the top-10 group six players gained points: Svidler (+31),Shirov (+16), Kramnik (+14), Topalov (+11), Morozevich (+10), Mamedyarov (+8). The  biggest loss in the top-10  was recorded by Ivanchuk (-36). Anand, Leko and Aronian lost 2 points each.
