WANG HAO Wins Reykjavk Open

GM Antoaneta Stefanova won the top women prize. The ex world champion finished with 6,0/9 on 9th place and managed to draw with the winner Wang Hao and with GM Meier, GM Al-Modiahki, and GM GM Dizdar.The surprise of the tournament were FM Sahej Grover (IND), trained by IM Vishal Sareen, a collaborator of liveteleshows.net  and FM Thorfinnsson (ISL). The Reigning World Chess Champion drew his penultimate Round game  of the Morelia Linares Chess Championship being played in Linares Spain.

 

In the  13th  round  the World Chess Champion Viswantahan Anand, having black pieces,  took on Vessily Ivanchuck. Both the players played their game with utmost cautions and did not give any chance to the opponent  for a decisive result. The World Chess Championship match 2008 in Germany will commence three days later than it was announced before. The duel between Viswanathan Anand ( India) and Vladimir Kramnik ( Russia) will take place in the Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bonn from 14 October to 2 November 2008.

Anand accept draw with Carlsen

In the10th Round of the Linares part of the Morelia - Linares Grand slam event Anand, who is leading the championship played against the young Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen.

Anand opened with e4  and Carlsen replied with c5 and thereafter with  2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e5 the game followed  Sveshnikov Sicilian lines. Anand won a fine game against Shirov in the First  round at Linares  after involving interesting novelty.

Afer move 20.Bc4!? Anand , who realised the sharp opening by Carlsen suddenly changed his mind and accepted a draw offer on  22.exf5...Anand is comfortably leading the tournament but  he probably isn't satisfied with the opening either, so a draw offer was practical .

ANAND EXTEND LEAD AT LINARES

Spanish leg of the 2008 Morelia Linares tournament continues in fighting spirit established in Mexico, with three decided games and only one draw. Vishwanatan Anand wins again against Alexei Shirov, extending the lead to full point. Topalov and Shirov, both tied on 2nd prior to this round, lost their games and were relegated to 4th place, while Aronian and Carlsen broke through to the 2nd place by scoring by winning against Topalov and Ivanchuk respectively. Radjabov sacrificed a piece against Leko, but this crazyhouse evaporated into a draw. After the scoresheet signing, the two were analysing depths of the position for at least an hour.

FIDE GRAND PRIX DATES & VENUES ANNOUNCED

On 1 February 2008 FIDE published long-awaited dates for the FIDE Grand Prix tournaments. For the first cycle of 2008/9, all players in the World Championship and Challenger matches will be invited to participate in the Grand Prix from the outset. Given the organisation of both these matches in the third quarter of 2008, all these players will all be asked to commit their participation in the Grand Prix series by not later than 31st January 2008. Should any of these players decline to participate in the Grand Prix series, the President may nominate a player to replace and this player must be rated among the top 40 players in the World.
