Mtel Masters begins in Sofia

The traditional super chess tournament M-Tel Masters began  today in the Central Military Club in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. The tournament to be held  till May 18, 2008 was opened by The President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov ,   Who is also the   patron of the tournament, which in his words is now a true tradition in Bulgaria's sports life. At the opening Parvanov was handed a special gift from Veselin Topalov - a cartoon with the faces of Topalov, Ivan Cheparinov and Silvio Danailov on a poster of the Dutch group Toppers. The general sponsor of the competition is Bulgaria’s biggest mobile operator M-Tel. Sponsor of the competition is also Corporate Commercial Bank. The competition is also supported financially by the Bulgarian Sport Totalizator

Bulgarian President to open M-Tel Masters

The President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov will officially open the fourth edition of the international super chess tournament M-Tel Masters. For the first time the games of the tournament will be played in a 10-ton “aquarium” made of glass, that isolates them from the noise in the playing hall.

Parimarjan to compete at Kaupthing

World's  2nd youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi has been invited to participate at the forthcoming Kaupthing Open  Chess Championship to be held at Luxemburg from 10th to 17th May 2008.

Grandmaster Koneru Humpy won the Inaugural Championship last year.

 Besides Parimarjan Negi , Reigning Asian Women Champion Tania Sachdev and upcoming GM Abhijeet Gupta will play in the Open Group A Championship

Santosh sizzles in Gulf Cup Dirt Track Racing Mang

C S Santosh stole the limelight as Team TVS Racing dominated the first round of the Gulf Cup Dirt Track Championship for two-wheelers, which attracted a record 177 entries, in Mangalore, on Sunday, April 27.

Chess Classic 2008 celebrates its 15th anniversary

Karpov, Ponomariov and Gelfand to play in Odessa

The 4th PIVDENNY BANK CHESS CUP will take place in Odessa, Ukraine from 30 May - 2 June 2008. The prize fund is USD 35,000. As usual, some of the world's most famous chess players will compete in this rapid chess tournament. So far, Anatoly Karpov (Russia), Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukraine) and Boris Gelfand (Israel) have all confirmed their participation.

This year, the number of contestants will be reduced from 10 to 8, and the time control will be somewhat shortened, but in exchange, the grandmasters will play not one but two games against each other.

The Rapid game of Round 4 was going according to Anand’s plans till 17…but  Leko’s 22^nd move  Nd5 was so strong that it suddenly turned the table and  white looked winning .Leko’s  28.Qg3 forced Anand to resign on the spot. This was Anand’s First loss at this years Amber.
