Michael Kransenkow Triumphs

In a thrilling 11th and last round of the LIC - Mumbai Mayor's International
Chess Tournament, overnight sole leader, Michael Kransenow who was assured
of the title with a round to spare, was not content with a draw and went for
a win against his Uzebk opponent, GM Anton Fillipov of Uzbekistan. However;
in a winning position he made a mistake and lost the game. This allowed
Fillipov and as also players occupying the 2nd spot, GM Koneru Humpy, GM
Abhijit Kunte, GM Ziaur Rahman of Bangladesh and GM Saidali Iuldachev of
Uzbekistant catch up with Kransenkow by scoring the win over their
respective rivals. All these players scored 9 points but,Kransenow was
declared the Champion of the Tournametn as he enjoyed superiror tie-break as
compared the other 6 players.

Going into the last round Topalov was a full point behind Ivanchuk. The latter had Black against Cheparinov, while Topalov was playing White, so he had some chances of catching the leader. But it was not to be – Ivanchuk won a nicegame, while Topalov drew. Thus Ivanchuk won the tournament with a fantastic result: +6 =4, showing a 2977 Elo performance!

India’s Parimarjan Negi played an excellent game against  Yuri Drozodovskij . Playing with white Parimarjan was quick to control the board and slowly captured all the important squares to give a befitting defeat to his opponent to be Joint winner with Andrei Istratescu who also finished on 7 points.

India’s Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi played with white against Andrei Istratescu in the 7th round game at Kaupthing Open being played at  Differdange Luxemburg. Following Sharp variation of Najdorf defence in which Parimarjan sacrified a minor piece for keeping an attack but his opponent played very strong defensive move and escaped . The match ended in a draw.
