Grandmaster Dragan Panuovic thrashed WIM Leite Catarina in just 21 moves and took his score to 7.5 points. He won 7 games ,lost one against GM. Anton Kovalyov and drew against GM Kevin Spraggett .

GM Paunovic in Sole lead at da FozWith the sun shining in this Resort City of Figueiro da Foz , Portugal, the battle for the Title also got heated up. As many as 20 boards saw victories. However the Joint leaders after Round 3 Grandmaster Vladimir Petkov and Grandmaster Anton Kovalyov drew their game after 28 moves when no one wanted to take any risk.
International Master Lanka Ravi from India had a good chance in the middle game but preferred to play a safe game against a strong GM Romanishin and finally agreed to accept a draw.

Indian men team which stood 22nd in the ranking at the end of the penultimate round of the 38th chess olympiad concluded at Dresden Germany today to beat Slovakia by 3-1 margin. This might help them in the final standing but their dream of any medal or finishing in top 10 teams was not realised. .Ganguli and P.Harikrishna recorded victories . Their team mates K.Sasikiran and G.N.Gopal obtaianed draws against their opponents. Sasikiran spoke to Sports hour after the game
Armenia lifted the Olympiad Title in the men's section while Georgia came 2nd.

Indian Men go down to the USA 0.5-3.5 in round 9, while Indian women chess team could only salvage a draw against 5th seed France in the 9th round of 38th Chess Olympiad being held at Dresden Germany. MASSIVE TURNOUT TO GREET ANANDThe world champion Viswanathan Anand was given a special hero's welcome on November 20 when he arrived at hometown Chennai from Frankfurt. Anand had defeated Vladimir Kramnik 6.5-4.5 on October 29. After armed policemen could not manage to control the crowd of onlookers, media, chess players pushing towards the champion, they escorted him to his car from the arrival gate directly sidestepping the area where he was supposed to be felicitated. In the Men's Section India played against Bosnia Herzegovina in which GM Krishanan Sasikiran playing with black proved too strong for GM Pedrag Nocolic on top baord and won the game with ease,while other three games ended in draws.

In women section International Master Tania Sachdev lost her game while Dronnavali Harika despite having better position could get only half a point with her drawn game. The best game of the match was played by Mary Aan Gomez and with Swati Ghate posted much needed victories to score 2.5 points against Italy's 1.5 Mary Aan and Swati Ghate spoke to Vijay Kumar immediately after their games.

The All India Chess Federation(AICF) on Thursday felicitated Viswanathan Anand for retaining the World Chess Championship title. Team India Cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni presented a one-carat diamond ring to Anand on behalf of the federation. Anand, who is celebrating his 39th birthday, thanked the federation. “I think I will accept the ring in the spirit of brotherhood. I remember the reception the federation gave me last year and again a very special reception this time. It really means a lot to me.”

Indian International Master Lanka Ravi tasted first defeat at the hands of Serbian Grandmaster Dragan Panuovic when he blundered in the middle game and lost the game . Playing with black he replied with Nf6 to his opponent's Nf3 and after normal moves the game followed Grunfeld varriations. The Serbian GM who lost the 5th game came well prepared and right from the world go he started capturing important squares and built an unpregnable fort which Lanka Ravi failed to destroy.
Woman Grandmaster Vera Nebolsina, who unfortunately lost in the 3rd round played very cautiously and this time did not give any opportunity to her opponentand finally came out
win after 62 moves
