Chess Champion Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand beat Alexie Shirov to register his
first win in the 10th round game at Corus Chess Championship
After drawing 9 games in as many rounds, India’s Super Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand scored his first win against Spanish Grandmaster Alexie Shirov. Playing with White Anand opened with e4 and Shirov replied with e5 and the game was fought on Ruy Lopez Moeller Defence lines. Both the players blundered in the middle game but Anand was quick to recover , He finally beat Shirov but only from a lost position. Shirov left himself with too little time on the run up to the first time.
