India B surprises India A in Women's Section of Asian Team Championship

The India B team surprised India A in the women’s section in the 4th round of the Tata Steel Team Chess Championship at town Hall in Kolkata on Friday. . In the men’s section, India A continued to win and beat Vietnam 2.5-1.5 to lead the fray with 8 match points to their credit. They are closely followed by Iran on 7 points. Iran led by GM Eshan Ghaem Maghami beat Indonesia 3-1 to set up a 5th round clash with India A.

On the top board, GM P Harikrishna was surprised by GM Le Quang Liem, who had won the Kolkata open earlier this year.The Indian captain GM K Sasikiran against Nguyen Ngoe Troung Son, while Surya Sekhar Ganguly won a quick game against GM Dao Thien Hai with the black pieces in a Grunfeld defence.GM Parimarjan Negi drew his game against GM Nguyen Anh Dung

In the women’s section, Vietnam beat the Iran 2.5 -1.5 narrowly to lead this section with 7 points. India B spoilt India A’s chanhat ces by beating their 1st team 2.5 –1.5 in the most exciting match of the day.17-year-old class 12 student Bhakti Kulkarni played the game of her life to beat WGM Kruttika Nadig and help her team come back in the championship. “ We came back from the grave, when everybody had given us up” said captain Nisha Mohota after the game.” I had great faith in Bhakti and told her that she had to win her game today” she added. On the top board Mary Ann Gomes drew with D Harika, Nisha drew with Eesha Karwade while Padmini Rout held Tania Sachdev.
